PUG Retreat (The Pooch Report)

On Monday and Tuesday I was up at the lake for the second annual PUG retreat – which went off without a hitch 🙂 Everyone seemed to have a great time relaxing, doing some goal setting, and just generally learning from each other and about themselves.

This year instead of packing the schedule full we only had one assignment – to come up with a list of 101 goals to accomplish in 1001 days. At the beginning of this year I went up to Tunxis for a day and created my own list. Some of those things I’ve already accomplished but it was nice to check back in with the list, make some adjustments, and just really think about where I am and where I want to be in 1001 days.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended for being such wonderful guests – everyone was so helpful, friendly, and just generally awesome that it made it really fun for me to be a hostess 🙂

A conference around the float 🙂

So ends the people photographs!! On to the dogs! Strider and Cooper had a fun time hanging out. I am looking forward to a doggie day at the lake with Jo & Dave of Allegro Photography on August 20th….if anyone else wants to crash the party let me know. There is only 1 requirement- you must bring a dog 🙂

Strider and Cooper took turns leaping for sticks

Go ahead and throw it already!

Strider has a habit of launching himself fully off the dock and then tucking his legs under him to make his landing 🙂

Best buds.

Whoever goes in first gets the stick. The other pooch waits on the dock and then steals it and captures the glory. A pretty smart and tricky strategy if you ask me….both dogs employed this strategy equally 🙂

Going in for the steal

Yay for Cooper!

And we finally got Cooper to leap off the dock!

Thank you again to everyone who came – I’m psyched for next year!

Off to the PUG Retreat!

I’m headed up to the lake this morning to prepare for the noon-time arrival of 35 photographers for the second annual PUG retreat 🙂 This year it will be less structured and more relaxing but I’m sure there will still be some great learning happening. I’ll be out of email contact until late Tuesday night but will respond then.

Happy Monday!

Operation Love ReUnited Shoot

Last week I had my first photo shoot for Operation Love ReUnited – a charity that provides complimentary photo sessions to deploying military families. I can’t remember exactly where I came across this charity but I happily joined up and was thrilled when Stephanie emailed me a few weeks later. I was especially thrilled because they live in California and were only in town for a few days.

Sadly earlier this month I received a call from a woman whose Husband was deploying on our wedding day – I felt terrible that I wouldn’t be able to be there to document the occassion and felt sad that there weren’t more photographers I could refer her to. Currently I am only one of two Connecticut photographers that participate so to all you photographers out there I encourage you to join up!

On to the lovebirds. This couple was terrific right from the get go – they have great chemistry and just seem to have a lot of fun being around each other. Stephanie positively lights up around Patrick and he does the same.

Operation Love ReuUnited asks that part of the session carry out a patriotic theme so Patrick happily donned his cammies for the beginning of our shoot

We met at the Old State House in Hartford but ended up shooting first in the Legislature building (I think that is what it’s called) right next door. I had heard that some buildings require a permit to shoot so we kept worrying that someone would kick us out. Maybe it was Patrick’s uniform but everyone was so nice and nobody said a word 🙂

Stephanie and Patrick took the elevator down while I stayed up above to capture the scope.

In the State House there is a room with a row of beautiful preserved old flags.

I love my tippy toes!

I don’t think Stephanie could look any happier!

We asked Patrick to be serious and this is what we got 🙂

Patrick is deploying to Iraq later this week and I wish him a safe journey and safe home.

A fun present

A present arrived today from Ben & Hedda. In it was something for me (The Big Book of Dogs) and something for Strider (a bumper toy). Anyone who knows me knows the way to my heart is through my pooch….who is MORE than pleased with himself and his new toy 🙂

Thank you both SO much!

Rowan’s First Birthday

Little Rowan turned 1 on June 23rd. A few days later I went over to photograph him getting his first taste of dessert….a summer fruit pie made with love by his Mom 🙂

Looks pretty tasty to me!

Oh cool Mom – what’s this?

Ooooo…..texture. Feels squishy.

Huh – it tastes pretty good!

Oh….wait….maybe not?

I think I’ll just play with it.

Oh who am I kidding – this is delicious!!!

Happy Birthday little man!
