On this first day of snowy winter in Vermont I’m reaching back to Labor Day weekend and a warm summer eve! Those who have been reading for awhile might remember that last summer (2011) we were one of the hosts for the Cocktail Cruise at the lake. Different docks host and each dock has a signature drink (both kid friendly and adult friendly!) and an appetizer to share with cruisers who paddle from place to place in floats, kayaks, canoes, etc.
This summer I missed the first one (which we hosted again) but was in town for the Labor Day one where others were hosting. We headed up the South Trail side of the lake and all perched around the first dock
They had a royalty theme going
And costumes to match! After three daughters and five granddaughters the prince finally arrived!!
The other wonderful hosts
If you’re really fancy you have custom glasses!
The one roving dock – Camelot the cocktail boat! (too bad I forgot to get a photo of the cocktail flag!)
This dock was especially popular perhaps since they chose to forego a signature drink and were taking orders!
Look closely….a turtle popped his head up to see what all the commotion was about!
On the way home our friend Amir decided he needed some exercise so quicker than I could grab my camera he dove into the water. Jess got a tow home from Giles and Jeff played lifeguard while Amir swam off the cocktails and hors d’oeuvres!
We all gathered on the dock to toast the sunset and another successful booze cruise
I shipped this beautiful album from Steve & Hayley’s wedding a few months ago to Steve’s Mom. She chose a 10×10 Digital Flushmount album with an Ocean cover and indenting on the cover with their names and the date. Inside were images from both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding.
I always love shipping albums out as I know that each time they are looked through it will put a smile on someone’s face! I am still waiting for a few more albums to come in in time for the holidays so more will be shared in the coming weeks!
I’ve been reading up a storm lately after my trip to a local book sale landed 11 books for $11!
My Mom actually shared “Blue Nights” with me since we both so enjoyed “The Year of Magical Thinking.” Neither of us liked this book nearly as much and though it was a short read it wouldn’t be one I necessarily recommend.
“The Sharper Your Knife the Less You Cry” was one of my book sale finds and it didn’t disappoint – I’m always up for a good foodie bio! This is a memoir written by a woman studying at Le Cordon Bleu. I enjoyed the story, the writing, and especially the recipes – I would recommend it!
I find Jodi Picoult’s books absorbing and “Nineteen Minutes” was no different. It’s based on a Columbine style shooting and follows a few characters in the small town that all experienced the shooting from a different perspective – definitely makes you think twice and her characters are always interesting – I’d recommend it.
I also recently read “Vanishing Acts.” Again engaging characters and a good story – I found it very absorbing and easy to get into.
Stay tuned – just about to start another book!
I had such a fun time meeting up with Emily & Dave before Thanksgiving. They were up in VT celebrating her birthday and combined it with a wedding planning trip. Emily went to UVM so has a strong connection to the area. Amazingly this was Dave’s first time visiting Shelburne Farms where they will be getting married next summer (very trusting!)…..he loved it!
The Inn had closed a few weeks before so we had the place to ourself and used the boarded up Inn as a beautiful rustic background!
Sheep’s Knoll is one of my favorite spots on the farm – such views!
So great to meet both of you – I’m looking forward to June!!
In October there were a few days where it rained and rained – dreary dreary days! Then one night about 1/2 before the sunset the sun magically appeared and the rain stopped. I looked outside and knew it would be beautiful so I hopped in my car and hightailed it to Shelburne Farms for some beautiful fall foliage shots – enjoy and happy weekend!
Ah the beauty of Vermont – I love it!!
