Last winter was the winter of redesigning my website so many shoots never got blogged including this gorgeous summery Basin Harbor Rehearsal dinner. Ilana and Dickie spent the weekend at Basin Harbor and kicked off the festivities on Friday night with a cruise on the Escape, dinner on the north dock, and a welcome reception (complete with smores bar) at the Red Mill. Basin Harbor is such a versatile venue with different locations so that each event can feel different and unique. Obviously being out on the lake on a gorgeous summer night is hard to beat!
I used to really basically require engagement photos and although I still feel they are important I really do love being present for the rehearsal dinner. It allows me to get to know all the most important people at the wedding and for them to get comfortable with me so by the next day they don’t notice me as much. Oftentimes everyone is a bit more relaxed as the party gets started and it’s special to hear all the wonderful toasts and get to know the couple a bit better.
Traditionally (although in this modern age there are no hard and fast rules!) it’s the “other” family that is hosting the rehearsal dinner so I’m happy to work directly with them or continue with the couple whatever is easiest.
Beloved Bowie was obviously a big part of the whole weekend!
Wonderful Pete & Laura (Ilana’s sister) whose wedding I photographed in 2012 – so special to photograph multiple siblings from the same family!
Not a bad spot that’s for sure!
Celebration over a successful cornhole round!
