This weekend I was up in Maine for Ori & Dave’s wedding. Miraculously even though the weather was horrendous everywhere else in New England it didn’t rain a drop in Bluehill, Maine – check out my Facebook page for a sneak peek picture…..I’m excited to share the rest 🙂
Knowing that the drive would be lengthy (about six hours each way) I knew I wanted something a bit more than my usual Fresh Air and This American Life podcasts….a book! I consulted my handy Pinterest Board of “Books to Read” and decided on “Blood, Bones, and Butter” which two friends had recently recommended to me.
In short I loved it. I am a big fan of what I refer to as “foodie biographies” and this one was no different. For some reason I didn’t realize it was a memoir until I began to read – I thought it was some sort of a history of food. It’s the memoir of Gabrielle Hamilton who is a well known Chef in NYC (though I wasn’t familiar with her). She also has a graduate degree in writing and it shows.
The details are delectable and she has a way of describing scenes so perfectly that you can picture it in vivid color -every last thing. I have to say that I am glad I listened to this book because I’m not sure I would have fully appreciated all those wonderful details if I was reading. She is the one reading the story and hearing her imitate the accent of her Italian Husband and speak the Italian words was lovely.
Anyway – I finished listening today as I did some work and I would highly HIGHLY recommend this book if you are a lover of food or if you just love a good story. Thanks Talley & Julie for the recommendation!!!
