Freezing Cold Night Shoot/Trash the Dress Session

What does one do on a freezing Sunday December evening with a nor easter blowing through? An outside photo shoot with a model dressed in a strapless dress OF COURSE 🙂 Carla called me yesterday afternoon and told me that her friend Renee had decided that today was the day to do her trash the dress session! I was curled up on the couch watching football and snuggling with Strider but I knew I couldn’t miss this.

So I bundled up and headed out into the winter wonderland 🙂

Renee was a TROOPER and said it was actually only her hands that got cold

Carla working it (head over to her blog and check out her awesome new head shots courtesy of Mike Romano and her rocking shots from this session)

Paul & Krystal were also there shooting. Renee’s dear Husband is bundled up and trying to warm up Renee’s jacket for between takes 🙂

Here I break a cardinal rule of photography – don’t have any objects coming out of people’s heads. By this time it was raining and my hands were numb so I was happy I even got off a single shot before I dropped my camera and my hands fell off!! Wearing mittens was definitely a mistake -I couldn’t trigger the shutter without taking my gloves off. Ah well – live and learn!!

This is called “painting with light.” You use a tripod (or the floor depending on what you have at hand!!) and set the exposure for 10 seconds (more or less) and then you paint light onto the subject with flashlights, spotlights, etc. Paul did a great job here – you can’t even tell because of how even it looks…..HOT 🙂

That’s it from me – I hung up my camera early and huddled in the cold taking some video for Carla and trying to warm back up. A huge thank you to Renee for being a total trooper and smiling the whole time and to Carla for having me along…you guys are great!
