Katie & James got married on just about the most perfect Vermont day you could ask for – sunny skies, not too hot, and a slight breeze blowing all day. After they booked me we realized that way back when James and I had worked at The Inn at Shelburne Farmstogether – small world. James’ Mom has been involved with the farm for years and both of them visited it frequently throughout their lives so it was the perfect spot to make it official.

I started the day at Katie’s family’s home in Williston with the girls including Piper who was not so sure what to make of me and all my gear.

Katie wore this penny inside her shoe that is a family heirloom 🙂

Katie was also the first bride to get a personalized hanger for her dress – SUCH a cute idea!!

Her Dad had the sweetest reaction to seeing her for the first time and I think we all teared up a bit

We headed over to the Inn for James & Katie’s first look!

Katie’s beautiful flowers were created by Minner Hobbs of Flowers in Season – they were gorgeous!

I staged James in the garden where he admitted to me that he was feeling quite nervous. I knew once he saw Katie all would be well and indeed it was – they had the sweetest reactions to seeing each other. James just couldn’t get over how stunning Katie looked.

These first moments are one of the reasons why I LOVE when couples do a first look – it really allows them to take in the day and intimately share with each other such an amazing moment. Each one is a bit different but every single couple is so glad they decided to do a first look

The bridal party and family joined us in the gardens to complete the formal photos with time to spare

More gorgeous details from Minner

After finishing up at the Inn we headed down to the Coach Barn for the main event. While James & Katie hung out behind the scenes I took some time to photograph some of the beautiful reception details. Katie handmade the table numbers.

Now THAT is a way to arrive at a wedding 🙂

I love the pageantry of Shelburne Farms Weddings – what an amazing place to emerge from!

James by this point was fully relaxed and enjoying the moment 🙂

Sweet expressions 🙂

Katie chose to recognize her Dad specially which again made us all tear up!

Can you imagine a more spectacular setting?

This was a special wedding for me for many reasons – one of which is that for the first time since our wedding I got to see my close close friend Wendy Bratt in action as an officiant. She has such a wonderful presence and way of personalizing the wedding and really making it specific to the couple – I can’t recommend her highly enough!!

And then it was official!!

Love this quiet moment

Since all the photos were done James & Katie headed straight to cocktail hour to enjoy their friends and family!

The orange and blue color scheme was so unique and colorful! In the background you can see the moss monogram that Katie made!

Cute 🙂

Katie found these antique forks on Etsy and had them engraved – something I’ve never seen before!

We stole away for a few more minutes of portraits 🙂

I loved how the branches framed the door

I love the idea of doing a full group shot if it’s logistically possible. As people were filing into the courtyard to be seated for dinner it was the perfect opportunity!

A surprise Red Sox cake for James and a small wedding cake to supplement the delicious desserts

Rings on the metal gates at the barn

Just as the sun was setting I brought them out to the lake to take advantage of the amazing views. One of James’ groomsmen crashed our portraits 🙂

LOVE. No really. L.O.V.E.

Katie’s Dad gave a very touching and emotional toast but everyone else kept it quite light. Her twin sisters did a rap to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song 🙂

And then The Pulse of Boston swung into action. This was the fifth time I’ve seen them and as always they brought the house down (and are nice to boot)!!

Katie changed into this lovely little number so that she could freely boogie 🙂

Oh what a night!!!
