Last weekend I drove out to Ithaca, NY for Kevin & Vaness’a wedding at Taughannock Falls and the Johnson Museum of Art. Vanessa’s Brother is Giles who was the best man in our wedding so I know their family quite well and enjoyed seeing everyone again. It was a very fun, laid back, and just generally happy wedding – people were thrilled to be there supporting Kevin and Vanessa.
I started the day at Satori (a day spa in Ithaca) with the ladies.

Vanessa & Kevin are both VERY fashionable. Vanessa wore flip flops to get to the ceremony (a 20 minute walk into a state park) but then donned these for the actual ceremony. Everyone was staying at the Statler Hotel on Cornell’s campus so I wanted to incorporate the clocktower into the shoe shot.
Guests gather before the ceremony which was across the bridge on the left
Vanessa’s Father escorts her down the very long “aisle” 🙂
And handsome Kevin patiently waits at the end!
They got married in front of the falls (215 feet…one of the highest on the east coast!) with the walls of the gorge rising on either side- an AMAZING place to have a wedding.
Vanessa was definitely a happy bride – she couldn’t stop smiling 🙂
They did their own version of the Seven Blessings and had their family and friends each read one.
Did I mention Vanessa was thrilled?
Vanessa’s sister Hester reads an Apache Blessing after they exchanged vows.
Vanessa has a great relationship with her siblings and it was wonderful to see them all together being themselves 🙂
Love this one. Vanessa’s dress was Nicole Miller and the way she did her hair complemented perfectly – very classy!
We went down into the gorges for some and dodged the crowds. People kept walking by us and saying ‘we hear there’s a wedding happening!’ and I would just look at them and think – do you not see the white dress and the bouquet???!! Hello!
After doing portraits at the park we drove up on campus to Mann Library where there are beautiful benches in memory of Vanessa’s Mom.
Giles’ wife Cathy was a chimes master when she was at Cornell so her present to Kevin & Vanessa was a chimes concert before the cocktail hour.
It was late afternoon so the glory light was streaming through the clouds – epic!
Their cocktail hour was in the sculpture garden at the Johnson which provided more opportunities for beautiful light. Outdoor cocktail hours are my favorite!
Kevin & Vanessa stole up to the sixth floor for a few moments of quiet before the reception started. The views of Cayuga Lake are amazing.
The toasts were wonderful and a great tribute to Kevin & Vanessa.
Then the party got underway. Two years ago when Giles & Cathy got married the song Soul Man was played and elicited quite a reaction from all of the siblings so I tipped off the DJ to play it again :)….and Giles got down 🙂
Later in the night Aubrey and Vanessa danced to Vogue…..it was hilarious.
Kevin & Vanessa – it was so FUN to be there with you both as you celebrated your wedding – have a fabulous honeymoon and I hope to see you again soon!
