Bedroom Makeover – The Big Reveal :)

February 20, 2011

This weekend we put the finishing touches on our bedroom makeover and hung artwork. It is now complete and I thought I’d share some before and after pictures.
Again the color we painted the bedroom is Benjamin Moore’s Serene Breeze (449) and we painted the closet Benjamin Moore’s Nob Hill Sage (450). They are both very serene, calming colors which was exactly what I was going for.
After a few false starts I completed the curtains and they look great – I think they really class the room up and we were able as a result to get rid of the ugly slatted shades.

We tried to keep the surfaces very clear and get as much stuff put away and out of the space as possible

The closet was the most dramatic transformation. We moved the luggage into our guest room and did a huge clean out of clothes meaning that we were able to put the bureau in the closet. My friend Sarah suggested a curtain to hide the clothes but I don’t mind them too much and I’m looking forward to adding to our frame collection over the next few months. I just ordered some prints so might switch some of the photos out when they come in.

I couldn’t find an original before shot without the headboard so this will have to do πŸ™‚

Jeff and I had been meaning to get this framed since our wedding in 2008 (detail shot further down). Jo-Ann Fabrics was having a 60% off framing sale so we decided to take advantage – it looks SO beautiful and is such a nice daily reminder of our wedding πŸ™‚

Again the before/after of the closet is my most favorite change – it just looks so open and airy now!

The ceramic vases I picked up at a store in Northampton. The beautiful luminaries are from Tabbatha Henry near Stowe, VT – when they’re illuminated they add a touch of romance to the room πŸ™‚

The painting above our bed I bought at the Shelburne Farmer’s Market last summer – thanks to Jo-Ann’s frame sale it can now hang instead of being stuck in a tube πŸ™‚

Laurel Fulton is the artist – what talent!

It’s the view from Mt. Philo in Charlotte, Vermont

Here’s a close up of our wedding register. The painting at the top was done by my Brother and was the cover of our invitation and ceremony program. We had the calligrapher who addressed our envelopes write out our names and the date and then our guests did the rest πŸ™‚ The mat has a blue border which fit just perfectly as blue was the font color of our invitations

This painting was done by my Brother and was a dream he had….pretty cool!

A few parting shots πŸ™‚

Overall I am totally THRILLED by the transformation and every time I pass the room it just makes me feel serene and calm – totally what I was going for πŸ™‚

Lately I’ve been watching the show “Enough Already with Peter Walsh” – he recommends creating a vision for the room at the beginning of your cleaning out. Anything that you come across that doesn’t fit with your vision goes out the door – it really helped prioritize things and make it easier to let things go. My vision was a serene and calm space with very little clutter that felt like a relaxing retreat. It does that and more πŸ™‚
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
