Liz and Zach were married on October 1st, with a ceremony and reception at the Common Ground Center.
These two met while they were serving in the Vermont Youth Development Corps, an AmeriCorps program. They’d seen each other at monthly trainings and hit it off during an event called Art Under the Stars. They continued their year of service and then headed west to Los Angeles together in June of the next year!
Outside of Vermont, one of Liz’s favorite places is Manhattan Beach, California—a blend of stylish LA and beachy calmness. So, every year when Zach asked Liz what she wanted to do for her birthday, she would say, “Stay in Manhattan Beach!”
Last year, Zach invited friends to join them for a weekend party to celebrate her birthday and the 4th of July. Before everyone arrived, the two of them went on a walk on the boardwalk, arriving at The Strand around 5:00. Liz pointed to a rooftop table and mentioned that she would love to sit there. Luckily, that seat was free for an hour and fifteen minutes, perfectly long enough for Zach to pop the question—and for the waitress to treat them to champagne and homemade donuts!
On the day of the wedding, Liz and her ladies gathered in the Eco Lodge, which had a beautiful view of the ceremony site, to get ready.
Meanwhile, Zach and the guys headed to the barn to don their ties.
Liz and Zach had a touching first look behind the barn before we went out to explore the stunning property.
They were even game to scramble down a muddy incline to reach a secluded spot with a view down the river!
After doing the bridal party photos we were about to start family photos when the bus pulled up……time to hide!
Liz’s sister created the loveliest flower arrangements for the arbor to frame the ceremony in an otherwise unadorned and open field.
Zach looked so lovingly and intently at Liz throughout the ceremony – you could tell they really felt connected throughout the day even when they weren’t right next to each other.
Both Liz & Zach’s Mothers spoke during the ceremony which made it so personal and heartfelt. It was fun to hear about both of their childhoods and their early days.
The service was beautiful, and it was clear in every detail just how much their friends and family loved and supported them.
I don’t think they could have smiled much bigger coming back down the aisle.
Moments after they married Liz & Zach turned around to see their best man and maid of honor coming towards them – their expressions (and Zach playing with his ring- always the sign of a new groom) says it all.
After that, it was time for a few quick family portraits before we all headed down to start the party!
I snuck down to the tent to grab a few detail photo shots before the guests arrived of the simple but colorful tables.
Liz & Zach’s best friends gave great and sweet speeches which had everyone laughing.
Then we headed over to the warmth of the barn…..time to boogie!
Liz & Zach, I loved being a part of your day. Your love and the love you have for your family and friends is so apparent. Congratulations!
