With the rain last week our garden is growing in leaps and bounds – it’s fun even just a few weeks after these shots were taken to look back and see how far things have come in such a short period of time. Jeff and I knew we wanted to add raised beds for growing vegetables to the garden mix this year. We had originally planned to construct our own but when we found pre-made Cedar beds at Home Depot for about $8 more than we would have spent building we decided to take the easy way out! The next step – filling them with dirt. No easy way out here….we borrowed a truck from a friend and spent the day filling and then emptying two loads of dirt and compost from the bed of it – good for the arms!
The empty beds – we just mowed part of the very dry (!) field right near the side of our house
We put a few layers of newspaper down as we’d read that that helps with weeds
Strider supervised
A few nights later I headed into the garden to take some pictures for my archive of progress….lots of dirt = lots of weeds
The beautiful apple tree with the daffodils in full bloom
And our stunning cherry tree which sadly is now all green (but still beautiful!)
The lilac tree just starting to bloom
Ahhh – home sweet home
Since these photos were taken we spent a whole weekend weeding, planting, and mulching so stay tuned for those photos.
