New Year’s at the Lake Part 1

January 13, 2011

Jeff and I spent a blissful week at the lake between Christmas & New Year’s – at first by ourselves and then joined by a gaggle of friends. We didn’t take too many pictures in the first half of the week but when everyone showed up I started snapping away.

Can’t remember which day this was taken but it’s a common scene πŸ™‚

Our friends started arriving Thursday afternoon and we headed out onto the frozen lake for a walk just before sunset. We borrowed our friend’s dogs Luke & Maggie so had four yellow labs in tow πŸ™‚

My poochies Strider and Sage were somewhat willing (but very cute!) models πŸ™‚

Getting Strider’s attention is hard sometimes – he’s too busy sniffing and exploring πŸ™‚

Yes I know that dot in the middle of the picture really could be anything (I left my zoom lens at home…who knew I’d need it!!) but in reality it’s a fox running across the lake

Leading the charge after the fox was Luke who disappeared and then came trotting back innocently 20 minutes later….apparently he’d lost the scent!

The reflections on the ice were pinks and purples

We found an icy patch in the middle of the lake where some neighbor’s kids were playing (and their yellow lab too….I think I sense a pattern!) and everyone had fun sliding across it. Luke decided to instead run right towards me πŸ™‚

The following day was AMAZING – it was close to 45 out and bright and sunny – just beautiful!

Bluebell skies and beautiful clouds

Sage has taken to rolling in the snow – not sure if it feels good or cools her off but it’s pretty cute πŸ™‚

Yes Giles broke through the ice.

I told him that I would have gotten a picture of him in the hole but my first concern was to see if he was alright. He said a true photographer would have gotten the picture first and then asked questions…..oh well πŸ™‚

The group out on the ice – four of the seven “Valentine Boys” (college roommates) reunite with some ladies and dogs added in for good measure πŸ™‚

We were able to walk right up to (and for Strider onto!) a beaver dam – those things are amazingly constructed!

Sage gets ready to pounce πŸ™‚

Scott was leaving that night so wouldn’t be around for the plunge the following day so he convinced Jeff and Giles to take a dip with him. Jeff & Giles were proud to say they were the last in the lake in 2010 and the first in 2011 πŸ™‚ Strider fell in too but was much more careful on day 2 and didn’t dip!

Happy guys πŸ™‚

More to come tomorrow!
