They met as counselors at summer camp – James, being from England, was an import from abroad : ) They were really long distance for a bit (international!) but their love has endured! Currently, Katie is an early childhood teacher and this wedding had SO many adorable children – it’s clear how important friends and family are to them both and how much they love children (and are naturals with them). Since I love kids too, I loved every moment of it!
I love the moment when Katie gave her Mom a locket as a thank you. Inside the locket were photos of her and her brother as children. It was the perfect way to begin noticing all the thoughtful details and gifts that marked this celebration all day long.
Katie’s dress was from J. Crew.
Invitations were from Minted.
While I was with Katie and the girls, my second shooter Alanna met up with the guys. In a nod to the movie “Up”, Katie made James the most amazing present – an adventure book filled with memories of their time together thus far….ticket stubs, inside jokes, funny quotes, etc. There might have been tears upon receipt. : )
When everyone was ready, we all headed down to the Ponds for the first look and portraits. I LOVE when people do this option, it ends up being so much more relaxed and real. And I love when reactions like this happen – James was so thrilled to see Katie!
I love this surprise pop of green!
Floral Art Vermont handled all of the flowers, and as always Alison knocked it out of the park. I especially loved Katie’s delicate floral crown.
James was the mountain peak in the middle of Katie’s family! There was some wrangling to get the ring bearer Jones (this little guy running away) to be in the group photo but we prevailed and the whole bridal party did a 10 second countdown until he ran away – whatever works! Are these little ones not the cutest? The girls are James’ nieces and being from Australia they had the BEST accents – sweet! I loved the ceremony location with Camel’s Hump in the background. Another wonderful detail – childhood photos of Katie & James lined the aisle – I’d never seen that before. I loved it! It was a very international wedding – James’ parents live in Germany, his Brother in Sydney and other friends and family in England and LA Instead of doing traditional vows James & Katie read aloud from the book “I like you” – such a unique and sweet touch. Then it was time to celebrate! The Ponds at Bolton Valley handled all the catering and the band, Groove Authority, kept everyone jamming all night long! The tent and rentals were provided by Vermont Tent Company, with the Granite Table Numbers created by Swenson Granite Works and engraved by Ridge Top Engraving.Cocktail hour included signature drinks with a nod to the Bride & Groom’s home countries. A very classy touch! James’ parents joined in the fun playing the very American game of Cornhole. The “goals” were decorated one with the US flag and one with the British flag.
I love that The Ponds has the perfect spot to do a full wedding picture – I think when possible it’s so nice to do. It can be such a fun memory of all who were gathered on this special day. I snuck the couple away for more portraits. Look at how happy they are! Keeping in line with the thoughtful gifts – James presented Katie with a beautiful memento of their time together at camp when they first met. Apparently, James’ room was woefully under-decorated that summer, so Katie made him decorations out of post it notes. Well, he saved them and had them framed for her as a gift – SO lovely! I love this moment, three brothers and guests at the wedding, stood up and did their own rendition of “American Girl”. They knocked it out of the park! Then, it was time for the getaway. Which Katie & James did in style. James & Katie – it is so clear how perfect you both are for each other and how much you enjoy one another. You radiate happiness and laughter and bring such warmth to the room. I hope you had a fabulous honeymoon in Big Sur -it was an honor to be with you on your special day!
