Springtime in Vermont

May 7, 2011

For my Birthday weekend we got a special surprise – Jeff got Friday and Monday off because it combined with Easter πŸ™‚ As a result we packed up the car and headed up to Vermont for two nights and then still had time at home on either side of it….the beauty of long weekends πŸ™‚

After a long drive the dogs were anxious to stretch their legs so we headed down to the beach. On the way we detoured over to the duck pond where this beaver was swimming around. Not a great picture but I was surprised that with labs all around he didn’t duck for cover…I think he must have been distracting them from going into his home. At one point Sage jumped in the water to try and catch him. I had a slight panic attack and may have lost my cool and needless to say she came back quickly without any incidents!

Lake Champlain is historically high and in the two weeks since we’ve left it’s risen even more. While we usually have about six to ten feet of beach (look in the background of THIS photo) there wasn’t any!! Besides that there were hundreds of sticks and driftwood that had washed up….a big clean up job!

It was quite springy but the water is still pretty chilly. It didn’t deter the dogs though – they loved cooling off and retrieving…..that’s a Labrador for you!

After getting the dogs settled and dried off we headed over to Heidi & Ave’s house for some time with Fia and dinner.

Fia’s favorite thing in the world right now is to ride on the Gator….she never wants to get off πŸ™‚

She’s really started looking like a little girl instead of a baby – growing up quickly!

Her hair is growing out and she has a full set of teeth πŸ™‚

She still thinks it’s pretty funny to feed Sage and Strider scraps from the table πŸ™‚

Our cousin Rowan and his Mom Lila joined us for dinner. Talk about growing up quickly -he’ll be four in a month!!

There are clearly some blue eyed genes on that side of the family -so striking!

Fia followed Rowan who was pushing his beloved truck

Cousins chatting away πŸ™‚

Sage decided that kids are good for two things – free food and stick throwing πŸ™‚

Back at the house we got stuck into building a fort in the couch cushions. Once Fia was done with her bath and in her PJs she joined us.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE these….they make my heart melt. Cousins playing together πŸ™‚

Fia went to bed so Rowan got to steal her chair and be a little kid for a while πŸ™‚ He thought that was pretty funny πŸ™‚

The next day I couldn’t sleep so went for an early (well…not THAT early!) walk with the dogs – it was a beautiful morning!

Next up….an Easter egg hunt with Fia πŸ™‚
