Cat and John were married on September 10th, with a ceremony and reception at the Basin Harbor Club.
Basin Harbor was the perfect place for this wedding, because that’s where Cat and John met as children. They had been going there with their families since they were young, and Cat was good friends with John’s sisters until finally, John & Cat started to date one summer. After a year together, John moved to Nashville to be with Cat, and the summer after that, he proposed—again at the Basin Harbor Club!
On the day of the wedding, the girls were in full getting ready mode when I arrived to the Homestead. It was amazing how much energy and excitement was present even with the mellow undercurrent that came with the knowledge that they were getting ready for such an important day!
Cat’s bridesmaids react to seeing her—such love!
Meanwhile, my second shooter, Alanna Scully, met up with the boys later in the town hall, and after that, they made their way over to the first look.
That first moment together was probably my favorite part of the day—John immediately teared up on seeing his beautiful bride, and it was just a sweet moment as Cat helped to wipe away those tears.
The sisters sneak a peek after the first look.
Such happiness!
After that, we got together with the bridal party to do portraits. It was a good thing we got that out of the way beforehand, especially with John’s family (him and 9 siblings!) The littlest kids kept things light, and there were plenty of animal noises to keep their attention and good humor.
The guests started to arrive after that, and Cat took some downtime to relax (something I always recommend) and to freshen up before the ceremony.
Thier officiant Wendy Bratt is a close friend of mine, she actually married me and my husband 8 years ago. I love the personal touches and personality she brings to each service she oversees—she’s the best!
John’s Mom had the BIGGEST smile on her face as she welcomed Cat into the family after the service.
As we approached the cocktail hour, people were cheering Cat and John’s entrance as everyone went out by the lake at the Burgee bar.
The very large Basin Harbor Club crew!
A first for me—a requested bridal party selfie right before everyone headed into the reception.
Then, we headed out to the tent on the Homestead lawn for the rest of the evening.
I especially loved listening to the toasts given by the family members during the reception. Because Cat and John’s families have been coming to Basin Harbor for 15 years, they all know each other so well and have been able to watch this romance blossom over time. It was fun to hear their reminiscences of growing up and to see the community of people that has sprung up around them.
At the end of the night, Cat and John shared a quiet last dance under the tent as their guests lined up to send them off with sparkles.
But not too far off, on the way to the after party at the Red Mill, the guests were treated to Creemees at the Harbor store!
Cat & John, congratulations to both of you. I wish you both many happy Basin Harbor memories to come!
