Wedding Planning Fun

September 29, 2007

Today I went dress shopping with Mary and Carla. When I came out of the changing room in the first dress their eyes welled up so of course I started crying too πŸ™‚

This time we went to The White Dress by the Shore in Clinton, CT. They started the appt. off right by offering us mimosas as we waited πŸ™‚ Since there was a Priscilla of Boston Trunk show going on I tried on only their dresses. I’m not quite sure if that’s standard practice when there is a trunk show going on but I didn’t question it as I didn’t see any other dresses that I fell in love with. Still it was a bit disappointing to not be offered the opportunity to look around. I’ve been to four gown stores now and everyone seems to do it a bit differently – it’s been interesting to see what the different styles/levels of service are.

One thing I will say about all these dresses is that they feel so much lighter than some other dresses I’ve tried on (due to the quality of the fabric I think). They are still heavier than your normal dress but you don’t feel like a little kid in a snowsuit that can’t move πŸ™‚

So here is what I tried on (no peeking Jeff!)

This dress is made of linen which I loved – very unique and very lightweight. You can’t really tell from this picture but the shape isn’t quite what I’m looking for. My limited fashion vocabulary is failing me but basically the flare comes from mid-thigh instead of hip (A-line) so it wasn’t as flattering on me as some others. I love the model in this photo – she definitely looks thrilled to be walking down the aisle πŸ™‚

This was very pretty but seemed a bit heavy on the lace for the bodice especially since my veil is full lace. It was also more structured (i.e. heavier) than the others.

Another unusual one – eyelet, but not quite what I’m looking for.

This gown was beautiful and actually is very similar to the gown my friend Jen wore for her wedding in July BUT I still think that strapless dresses look a bit strange on me.

The front runner from the day but I still didn’t get the feeling that it was “the one.” This photo doesn’t do it justice – it has a stunning small lace train and is just very lightweight. The sample was a bit small so I could barely breathe πŸ™‚ but the dress itself was just beautiful. They said they’d be able to put small straps on it but it still isn’t quite right…..I think I’d be in better shape if I could figure out why!

We had lunch at a small cafe across the street and helped Mary figure out just what she has to do before her wedding on October 13th. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon eating ice cream (so we could consolidate our lists!), shopping at Michaels (ribbon for programs, mason jars for decorations, paper for signs and tags, glue dots, welcome bags, stamps for tags), Jo-Anne’s (fabric for apple butter jars, more ribbon (for apple butter jars and table name signs), containers for programs and petal toss, and signs to direct people to the ceremony), Walmart, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Mary and Justin’s wedding is going to be STUNNING – so many beautiful details that I can’t wait to share with all of you. Their colors are brown and blue and they have spent countless hours making sure that every details is just so. They have come up with some really unique ways to bring in details personal to them – West Virginia for Mary and Photography for Justin. I can’t wait!!

It’s the end of the day and we are a bit giddy πŸ™‚

I haven’t laughed that hard for awhile – you ladies (and Justin!) are THE BEST

first, these are all beauties and while, yes, the models are about 90 pounds each, i’m sure you would look stunning in them too.
second, weren’t you wearing strapless at Heidi and Ave’s wedding? that looked awesome on you. but, in general, i’m not a big fan of strapless. it always gets kind of twisted around and i’d be worried all day about it slipping down.
third, i did like the last one the best.
fourth, you WILL know when you find the perfect dress, so don’t get discouraged.
have fun and i can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

I had SO much fun with you guys and am so honored to have been a part of such a big day for both of you! I LOVE WEDDINGS!! And I can’t wait to see what you finally pick, b/c it is going to be perfect!

I LOVE the last one! So classy!

Good luck on choosing a dress.

My wife bought the first wedding dress she tried on. She refused to look any others.
